Greenville Cumberland Presbyterian Church has been closed for the safety of the congregation after structural problems with the building’s roof supports was discovered.

The Greenville Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Cherry Street is currently not safe for the congregation to enter for worship services after a roofing contractor found deterioration
in two of four attic beams which support the weight of the building’s roof.

Anna Cosby, who for decades has served as a Sunday School teacher and president of the church’s Women’s Group, said Friday the church was in the process of having the roof replaced with the contractor discovered two beams in the center of the attic were damaged and had begun sliding down against the exterior walls. The movement and weight then caused the walls to push outward.
